Belarus, Russia to step up fight against drug trafficking

MINSK, 27 October (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia will renew their joint effort to fight drug trafficking, Russian Deputy General Prosecutor Viktor Grin told the media following the joint session of General Prosecutor’s Offices of the two countries on 27 October, BelTA has learned.

“During the session, we discussed the results of our joint fight against this evil. A number of measures have been undertaken. A special working group has been formed to map out new measures to combat drug trafficking,” Viktor Grin pointed out. In his words, the work will be carried out in every direction, from preventing drug smuggling to identifying and convicting those guilty of drug trafficking.

Belarusian Deputy General Prosecutor Alexander Dubov stressed that drug trafficking is a pressing issue nowadays. “Drugs kill over 200,000 people a year. We will not be able to fight this evil without concerted action. This is about national security and our citizens’ health,” he emphasized.
