Belarus, Russia to step up cooperation in information security

MOSCOW, 29 June (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia will step up cooperation in information security matters. The idea was discussed as Belarusian Communications and Informatization Minister Sergei Popkov met with Russian Telecom and Mass Communications Minister Nikolai Nikiforov at the fourth Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia in Moscow on 29 June, BelTA has learned.

Participants of the panel session on cooperation between Belarusian and Russian IT companies on the markets of Russia and Belarus as well as third-country markets discussed cooperation in the sphere of digital government, the sharing of the best practices in the development of IT education, cooperation in online trade, the development of public private partnership in information and communication technologies, software development for the public sector, and other things.

For the sake of implementing the relevant Union State program during the meeting Sergei Popkov and Nikolai Nikiforov discussed support for innovative IT companies on the Belarusian and Russian markets. Information about the establishment of the North-West regional center of competences for making computers using Russian electronic components was presented. The main hindrances standing in the way of R&D efforts of Belarusian and Russian IT companies and solutions for high-performance network traffic processing in a virtual environment were discussed.

Sergei Popkov and Nikolai Nikiforov signed recommendations on cooperation between Belarusian and Russian IT companies on the markets of Russia and Belarus and third-country markets.

The sides agreed to support the organization of joint events for sharing the best practices in the development of digital government in Belarus and Russia, step up cooperation between education institutions, and step up interaction in ensuring international information security, the creation of a monitoring system and the joint responses to emerging threats. The sides agreed that efforts will be exercised for representatives of Belarus and Russia to take part in exhibitions, seminars, conferences, and forums on the development of information technologies.
