Belarus, Russia to hold hearings on equal rights for their citizens

MOSCOW, 20 November (BelTA) – The status of preparations for hearings on ensuring equal rights for Belarusian and Russian citizens will be discussed by the commission on legislation and regulations of the Belarus-Russia Union State’s Parliamentary Assembly in Minsk on 28 November, BelTA learned from the press service of the Parliamentary Assembly.

“In line with the decision of the 52nd session of the Union State PA, the hearings on harmonizing Belarus’ and Russia’s legislation on ensuring equal rights for citizens will take place in December 2017. The commission on legislation and regulations of the Union State PA will discuss the preparations for the event and exchange views on draft recommendations for the hearings co-developed by ministries, departments, and experts of Belarus and Russia,” the press service noted.

The commission, together with the Union State Permanent Committee and Russia’s Interior Ministry, is also expected to discuss lifting the requirement on Russian employers to notify Russia's internal affairs authorities of employment of Belarusian citizens. The requirement is stipulated in the federal law on the legal status of foreign citizens in Russia.

Members of the Parliamentary Assembly monitor the progress in the implementation of top-priority tasks of the Union State development for 2014-2017 and help draft a similar document for another period of time. At the session, the MPs will review the draft list of priority areas and tasks of the Union State development for 2018-2022.
