Belarus, Russia to discuss cooperation in culture on 26 November

MINSK, 26 November (BelTA) - A meeting of the joint collegium of the Culture Ministries of Belarus and Russia will be held in the National Library of Belarus on 26 November, BelTA learned from the Culture Ministry.

The culture ministers of the two countries, Anatoly Markevich and Olga Lubimova, are expected to take part in the meeting. The parties are set to discuss the promising areas of bilateral cooperation in culture.

According to the Culture Ministry of Belarus, the ministries are currently implementing a plan of cooperation for 2019-2021. It provides for events in museum and library affairs, theatrical and performing arts, and cinematography.

All events scheduled for 2019 have been implemented. The Days of Spiritual Culture of Russia in Belarus were held in Minsk, Lida, Vishnevo, Bobruisk and Mogilev. Representatives of the two countries took part in the international festivals Intermuseum and Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk, the Forum of Regions, the interstate program "Brest is the CIS Capital of Culture 2019", and the St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum. In addition, there were tours of theaters, exhibition projects, performances of Russian bands and artists. Master classes and joint plein airs were held for students of art and music universities of Belarus. Russian and Belarusian films were shown at international film festivals in the two countries.

This year, due to the epidemiological situation, most of the face-to-face bilateral cultural events were postponed to the second half of the year. Yet, the cultural institutions of Belarus and Russia continue exchange events online.

The Culture Ministry recalled that the Novgorod State Unified Museum-Reserve has been running exhibitions  in Belarus since the end of September. The National Polotsk Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve is hosting an exhibition of Old Believers books from the holdings of the Russian museum. An exhibition of works by Ivan Shishkin was arranged in the Vashchenko art gallery in Gomel. An exhibition of contemporary Russian art textiles, costumes and accessories "Epoch, People, Life. The 20th-Century Art Space" prepared by the All-Russia Museum of Decorative, Applied and Folk Art has opened at the National Historical Museum of Belarus.
