Belarus-Russia Forum of Regions expected to result in specific proposals

MINSK, 25 May (BelTA) – The Belarus-Russia Forum of Regions is a platform to discuss specific proposals to improve Belarusian-Russian cooperation in the current economic conditions, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich said during a meeting of the organizing committee of the Forum of Regions, BelTA has learned.

“In view of the problems facing the world economy, we must support initiatives to minimize the difficulties in the economic and social life of our states,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said.

Mikhail Myasnikovich also noted that Belarus needs to demonstrate achievements and interesting projects at the forum. “Especially considering the fact that we are gearing up for the 5th Belarusian People's Congress,” he added.

Little time is left before the start of the 3rd Forum of Regions and all preparation activities should be undertaken at the appropriate level and in a timely manner, Mikhail Myasnikovich said.

For his part, Vice Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Anatoly Rusetsky said that the program of the forum has been prepared and agreed with the Russian side, and the lists of participants have been compiled. “Official attendance is 350 people, although the number of participants will be a lot more,” Anatoly Rusetsky said. He drew attention to the fact that before the start of the official part representatives of Belarus and Russia will hold talks and sign contracts.

The 3rd Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia will take place in Minsk on 7-8 June. The goal of the event is to expand the Belarusian-Russian regional cooperation and assist the establishment of direct contacts between the regions, companies and organizations of the two states in the social, economic, scientific, educational, cultural, humanitarian and other areas.

The inter-parliamentary commission on interregional cooperation of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus and the Council of Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation will convene for a meeting during the forum. A number of large-scale events will be held as part of the Forum of Regions, such as the festival Image of Time that will bring together regional TV companies, a sports competition for children and youth, and the trade show Belagro 2016. During the latter Belarus and Russia are set to sign nine agreements. The delegates of the forum will also attend the events of the Days of Moscow in Minsk on 7-9 June.
