Belarus-Russia foreign policy program 2027-2029 to be reviewed in autumn

MINSK, 15 June (BelTA) – The program of coordinated actions of Belarus and Russia in foreign policy for 2027-2029 will be reviewed in Minsk this autumn, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told journalists after a meeting with Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov in Minsk on 15 June, BelTA has learned.

“We analyzed the work on preparing a new program of coordinated actions for 2027-2029. We will consider this document in Minsk this autumn at the annual joint meeting of the collegiums of our two ministries,” Sergey Lavrov said.    

“We paid particular attention to the foreign policy support of integration processes within the Union State and to strengthening the position of the Union State of Belarus and Russia on the international stage. We highly rated the implementation of the current program of coordinated actions in foreign policy for 2024-2026,” Sergey Lavrov said.

According to him, the implementation of the inter-ministerial consultation plans for 2026 has also been highly praised. He noted that ten rounds of consultations at the level of deputy ministers and department directors have already taken place during the first half of the year, with approximately the same number scheduled before the end of 2026.

Speaking about his morning meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, Sergey Lavrov noted a positive assessment of Russian-Belarusian foreign policy coordination. According to him, the parties exchanged views on key issues created by the West not only around the Ukraine settlement process ‘throwing a spanner in the works of any sincere efforts, but also by escalating tensions in other parts of the European continent.’

“We have a common position. We are allies and remain faithful to our allied commitments. We see the intentions of those trying to find differences in our approaches and drive wedges between us. We will continue what has been agreed upon and endorsed by our peoples: strengthening the Union State in all its dimensions,” Sergey Lavrov said. 

Commenting on his talks with Maxim Ryzhenkov, Sergey Lavrov described the meeting as a genuinely friendly and trusting conversation. “There are no secrets between us. We raise any issues openly with each other and gain a clear understanding of how to proceed in a way that ensures our interests are mutually taken into account,” he said.

Sergey Lavrov also announced that the parties agreed to enhance coordination within the United Nations and across Eurasian and other integration organizations, including the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). “We will also align our efforts within BRICS, where Belarus holds the status of a partner state,” he said.
