Belarus ready to provide resources for UN peacemaking operations

MINSK, 12 July (BelTA) – Belarus is ready to honor its commitments regarding the provision of resources for UN peacemaking operations. The relevant statement was made by Chief of the General Staff, First Deputy Defense Minister of Belarus Oleg Belokonev at a UN conference on peacemaking, BelTA has learned.

Oleg Belokonev made a speech during the conference in New York on 11 July. The officer expressed Belarus’ readiness for the practical implementation of its commitments regarding the provision of resources for UN peacemaking operations. He also underlined the openness and flexibility of the Belarusian side in cooperation with foreign partners in this area.

The head of the Belarusian military delegation underlined the importance of pooling efforts of all countries in order to improve results of peacekeeping operations and enhance the potential of peacemaking missions. Oleg Belokonev said he was confident that the ongoing reforms in the UN Secretariat will result in the creation of a reliable mechanism, which will contribute to stronger security and peace, including by reinforcing the peacemaking potential of the United Nations Organization.

Oleg Belokonev also mentioned the special role women play in supporting peace and security. According to the Belarusian side, their active participation in the resolution of conflicts represents not only a step towards gender equality but also an important tool for ensuring peace and sustainable development.
