Belarus' projects during CEI presidency discussed

MINSK, 3 March (BelTA) – Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich met with Deputy Secretary General of the Central European Initiative (CEI) Erik Csernovitz in Minsk to discuss promising projects that might be implemented during Belarus’ presidency in the CEI, BelTA learned from the press service of the upper house of the Parliament.

The meeting highlighted the issues of cooperation in the CEI parliamentary dimension during Belarus’ presidency in the organization in 2017. “Mikhail Myasnikovich noted that the presidency in the CEI is of special importance for Belarus and it can be by right named a historical event for the country. Special attention was paid to the preparations for the meeting of the inter-parliamentary cooperation committee of the CEI parliamentary dimension which is to be held in Minsk in May 2017,” the press service said.

The promotion of connectivity in a greater Europe has been chosen the key theme of Belarus’ presidency in the CEI, which goes in line with the organization’s main activity and equally meets the interests of all the member states.

The Central European Initiative is a regional organization founded in 1989 by Italy, Austria, Hungary and Yugoslavia. At present the CEI unites 18 countries (Albania, Austria, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine). Belarus joined the CEI in 1996.
