Belarus president wants flax grown properly

ORSHA, 30 November (BelTA) – The toughest measures will be taken if civil servants and executives fail to make sure the flax farming technology is followed to the letter. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement during the government conference held in Orsha on 30 November to discuss the development of flax farming and flax processing, BelTA has learned.

During the conference Director of the Flax Institute Ivan Golub noted that flax is sometimes grown and processed improperly in Belarus despite recommendations of scientists and the organization of educational events.

Alexander Lukashenko asked Deputy Prime Minister Mikhail Rusy about reasons behind the situation. The deputy prime minister said: “It is an oversight. We will push for every hectare.”

Alexander Lukashenko stressed that the toughest measures will be taken if top officials of the agriculture and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus fail to enforce the observance of flax farming technologies in 2019. It is up to the oblast governors to oversee practical work at the municipal level.

At the same time the head of state noted that all the executives, who demonstrate high performance in farming flax and other crops, should not be left unrewarded. “Not only orders. They should get something else on top of orders,” said Alexander Lukashenko.
