Belarus president wants 11 underperforming districts fixed within two years

Belarus president wants 11 underperforming districts fixed within two years

BARANOVICHI, 22 March (BelTA) – Regions where social and economic development has to be accelerated should be put in order within two years. The list includes eleven Belarusian cities, including Orsha and Baranovichi and their surrounding territories. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko gave the relevant instructions as he met with representatives of administration of the city of Baranovichi and Baranovichi District on 22 March, BelTA has learned.

Top civil servants, people in charge of running the region were also present during the meeting. Alexander Lukashenko said: “Just like in Orsha you should set up groups and start working. Revise everything. Act upon people’s complaints. Eleven regions like Baranovichi and Orsha should be put in order within two years. All the people should have jobs. There should be iron discipline and normal salaries. If someone doesn’t want to work, show them how it’s done and make them work.”

Earlier the head of state noted that his arrival in Baranovichi continued the work to develop the regions, which had begun in Orsha District. “It was very important to test all the ideas I’ve suggested in an area one knows well in order to translate the experience onto similar cities later on,” Alexander Lukashenko explained. “The experience in Orsha was heavy. We lost virtually half the government there. I don’t want the same thing to happen in Brest Oblast.”
