Belarus President urges to prevent rigged tenders

MINSK, 16 December (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko gave an instruction to improve the system of tender purchases, Chairman of the State Control Committee Leonid Anfimov said after the session hosted by the head of state on 16 December, BelTA informs.

“We will keep an eye on tender purchases,” Leonid Anfimov said. “The President gave an instruction to update and streamline the system of tender purchases.”

According to the chairman of the State Control Committee, the main objective is to prevent rigged tenders when a customer and potential contractors can agree on the results of the tender in favor of a concrete performer. “It is needed to improve the legislation to eradicate this loophole,” he said.

Leonid Anfimov said that the number of inspections has reduced almost ten times from the beginning of the previous decade. Besides, these inspections have become more efficient. The agency is focused on the most important areas of Belarus’ economic activity.

The chairman of the State Control Committee cited the inspections in the housing and utilities sector as an example. They revealed big untapped reserves and helped raise the cost recovery of corresponding services without increasing tariffs for the population. The same was done in the passenger transportation sector. It is also needed to step up efforts in other fields, Leonid Anfimov added.
