Belarus president urges better transportation between Minsk, satellite towns

Belarus president urges better transportation between Minsk, satellite towns

MINSK, 28 March (BelTA) – It is necessary to consider ways to enable more effective transport links between Minsk and its satellite towns. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the relevant statement as he authorized the appointment of Alexander Lasevich as chairman of the Logoisk District Executive Committee on 28 March, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Lukashenko said: “Frankly speaking, Logoisk District disturbs me. I haven’t been on the ground over there for a long time but I constantly fly over the district and see what is going on. A very convenient district. People can live and work over there nicely. A genuine satellite town of Minsk. We are going to develop Minsk via Logoisk, Smolevichi, Dzerzhinsk, and other towns like that. Although slowly, the process already goes on. This is why Logoisk should grow larger with future residents, who may be able to commute to Minsk for work from Logoisk.”

The president drew attention to the need to develop convenient and fast transportation between Minsk and the satellite towns. Not only by personal cars or public buses, but also by rail. “The Minsk Oblast governor has already received the relevant instructions. As a former minister [of transport and communications] he has worked on it. He should come up with the most effective transportation links with such satellite towns,” Alexander Lukashenko noted.

Alexander Lukashenko also drew attention to agriculture in Logoisk District. “Logoisk should not lag behind as far as the development of agriculture is concerned. It should be developed as well as in Minsk District,” the president said.
