MINSK, 13 April (BelTA) – Top government officials are elected heads of supervisory boards of sport federations because they can resolve organizational problems. Belarus President, President of the National Olympic Committee Alexander Lukashenko made the statement during the government conference held on 13 April to discuss the development of winter sports, BelTA has learned.
Alexander Lukashenko said: “We’ve decided to set up supervisory boards and put people, who understand specific sports, in charge of sport federations. Has it been done? Why do we send top government officials to supervisory boards? For instance, the prosecutor general takes care of skiing while the KGB chairman sees to biathlon. Because these people have the capability and the administrative leverage to provide any kind of assistance.”
According to the president, the head of a sport federation should work directly with coaches and athletes, with sport schools.
