Belarus president comments on temporary accommodation centers for foreigners

MINSK, 20 January (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made a few comments on 20 January to expand on the plans to build temporary accommodation centers for foreigners in the country. The comments were made as Alexander Lukashenko authorized guidelines on guarding the state border in 2017, BelTA has learned.

The head of state said: “We have some agreements on migration with the European Union. They allegedly give us money for the sake of building facilities for the accommodation of migrants. I would like to hear your opinion of the matter and an evaluation of our agreements and actions. What has been done so far and what are we going to do?”

“I am saying it also because once again I see mass media report the opinion of our ‘concerned citizens’, who cry out loud that we are turning Belarus into some kind of a cesspool,” said the head of state. “Let me warn you that we need no ‘cesspool’ in Belarus. We don’t need someone else’s migrants here.”

“If someone is interested in it, money needs to be appropriated not only for creating such temporary accommodation centers and camps for illegal migrants but their consequent extradition, too. We don’t need illegal migrants here. I would like you to bear it in mind,” noted Alexander Lukashenko.

“This is why we have not moved far in this regard. If there are any dangers, we must immediately suspend such processes. If it is necessary,” concluded the President.
