Belarus, Poland discuss inter-parliamentary cooperation

MINSK, 28 January (BelTA) – Inter-parliamentary cooperation prospects were discussed at the meetings Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Anatoly Isachenko held in the Parliament of Poland on 28 January, BelTA learned from the press service of the Council of the Republic.

Anatoly Isachenko met with Deputy Marshal of the Senate of Poland Gabriela Morawska-Stanecka and Deputy Marshal of the Sejm of Poland Ryszard Terlecki to discuss the ways to intensify dialogue between the two countries in various areas. The parties also focused on the activity of the Belarusian-Polish inter-parliamentary group.

The Belarusian delegation led by Anatoly Isachenko traveled to Poland to take part in commemorative events timed to the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau on 27 January. A candle lighting ceremony took place at the memorial to the victims of the death camp in Oswiecim. Attending the event were delegations from 60 countries and international organizations. Nearly 200 former prisoners of the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, including 13 from Belarus, attended the event as guests of honor.

Anatoly Isachenko took part in the ceremony of handing the capsule with soil from Oswiecim to senior priest of the Church of All Saints in Minsk, Archpriest Fyodor Povny from Oswiecim Mayor Janusz Chwierut. The capsule will be placed in the crypt of the temple during the international campaign To the Glory of the Shared Victory. The Belarusian delegation also held talks with the administration of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum on cooperation with the Trostenets Memorial and other museums of Belarus.
