Belarus PM to attend SCO Council of Heads of Government session in Dushanbe

MINSK, 10 October (BelTA) – Belarusian Prime Minister Sergei Rumas will go on a working trip to Tajikistan on 11-12 October to take part in the Meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) that will take place in Dushanbe, BelTA learned from the press service of the government.

Top on the agenda of the meeting will be trade and economic cooperation, regional economic and trade contacts, and humanitarian and cultural projects within the framework of the SCO.

On the sidelines of the session, Sergei Rumas will hold bilateral meetings with his foreign counterparts.

“For Belarus the SCO is an important international platform to determine specific cooperation mechanisms in combating terrorism, extremism, organized crime and illegal drug trade. We are also interested in strengthening the economic dimension of the organization,” the press service noted.

Having an observer status at the organization, Belarus takes part in sessions of the ministers of the SCO member states responsible for foreign economy and foreign trade, in conferences on trade and economic cooperation within the SCO, events arranged by NGOs, the business council and the SCO Interbank Association.

Belarus maintains cultural and humanitarian contacts with the SCO, which includes meetings of culture ministers, contacts between culture and information centers, funds and unions, as well as interparliamentary cooperation.
