Belarus, Philippines to establish regular political dialogue

MINSK, 26 November (BelTA) - Belarus and the Philippines have agreed to sign a memorandum of bilateral consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and the establishment of a mechanism to develop regular political dialogue. The matter was discussed at a meeting between Belarus’ Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Dapkiunas and Ambassador of the Philippines to Russia with concurrent accreditation to Belarus Carlos D. Sorreta on 26 November, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The parties also discussed the state and prospects of the Belarusian-Philippine relations, exchanged views on topical issues on the international agenda, emphasized the importance of the inter-parliamentary dimension of the Belarusian-Philippine cooperation both in the bilateral format and also in global and regional inter-parliamentary structures.

The parties confirmed mutual interest in organizing a visit of the Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs to the Philippines in 2019. The parties stressed the importance of the speedy completion of work on several bilateral documents, including basic economic agreements and agreements on the abolition of visas for holders of diplomatic and official passports.

In the run-up to the visit of a delegation of the Philippine Ministry of Agriculture to Belarus due in December 2018, Andrei Dapkiunas and Carlos D. Sorreta discussed possible forms of more active cooperation between the two countries in agriculture, including the use of Belarus’ best agricultural technologies in the Philippines. The Philippine ambassador expressed interest in organizing supplies of fresh fish and fruit from the Philippines to Belarus.

The parties also considered way of further deepening the active cooperation between Belarus and the Philippines in international organizations, notably in the UN and the Non-Aligned Movement and also strengthening the traditions of mutual support.
