Belarus’ participation in Eastern Partnership discussed in Brussels

MINSK, 19 December (BelTA) – The Belarusian-European relations and Belarus’ participation in the Eastern Partnership initiative were discussed during a working visit of Belarus Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Kravchenko to Brussels, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Oleg Kravchenko took part in the expert discussion “Belarus’ Foreign Policy: Challenges and Opportunities in the Changing Geopolitical Age” organized by the European Institute of Peace. In his speech Oleg Kravchenko explained certain priorities of the country’s foreign policy and informed on measures taken to support regional stability.

The deputy minister led the Belarusian delegation at the 8th meeting of the Belarus-EU Coordination Group. The event was attended by Deputy Managing Director for Europe and Central Asia at the European External Action Service Luc Devigne, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, other government bodies of Belarus, and subdivisions of the European Commission and the European External Action Service.

The meeting focused on cooperation in economy and finance, trade, agriculture, education, science, environment, transport, digital technology, international technical aid, and human rights.

The Belarus-EU Coordination Group held its first meeting in April 2016. The group has been set up to develop dialogue across the whole range of issues of bilateral cooperation between Belarus and the European Union. The group holds meetings once in six months. Taking part in them are representatives of the European Commission, the European External Action Service, and Belarus’ government bodies.

The previous meeting of the group took place in Minsk on 24-25 April 2019.
