Belarus partakes in CIS consultations on new threats, challenges in Moscow

MOSCOW, 7 July (BelTA) – A Belarusian delegation led by Anatoly Bugrenko, advisor of the International Security and Arms Control Office of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, took part in ministerial consultations held in the Moscow office of the CIS Executive Committee on 7 July to discuss cooperation of the CIS member states in counteracting new challenges and threats, including Afghanistan-related problems, the press service of the Embassy of Belarus in Russia told BelTA.

According to the source, participants of the consultations discussed a wide range of matters concerning counter-terrorism and counter-drugs cooperation, the counteraction of money laundering and terrorism financing, ways to ensure international information security.

During the meeting the sides confirmed their commitment to persistently advance cooperation via the relevant multilateral platforms in the prevention of new threats and challenges. The United Nations Organization’s central coordinating role in counteracting terrorism and other modern threats was underlined. It was noted that international cooperation in this field should be pursued without political bias and dual standards. The importance of carrying out the UN Global Counterterrorism Strategy and relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council was emphasized.

The participants of the meeting agreed that it is necessary to work out common approaches to dealing with the problem of foreign terrorists and militants and to taking comprehensive measures meant to counteract violent extremism and radicalization of public mood.

The consulting parties agreed to step up interaction in ensuring international information security, said the press service. At the same time they confirmed the readiness of the CIS member states to coordinate their views during preparations for and the actual special session of the UN General Assembly on the World Drug Problem in 2016.

Participants of the consultations also noted successful cooperation in counteracting money laundering and terrorism financing.
