MINSK, 13 November (BelTA) – The Belarusian parliamentary delegation began its participation in the events of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly (IPA), taking place in Dushanbe on 13-14 November, with a series of bilateral meetings, BelTA has learned.
A meeting was held with Rustam Emomali, Chairman of the Majlisi Milli of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan. The parties discussed a wide range of issues in bilateral relations. It was noted that parliamentary cooperation between Belarus and Tajikistan is characterized by a high level of trust and openness. Parliamentarians of the two countries traditionally take part in election observation in Belarus and Tajikistan and interact on various international parliamentary platforms.

In February this year, the Belarusian parliament obtained observer status in the Asian Parliamentary Assembly. In this regard, the Belarusian side expressed hope for cooperation with colleagues from Tajikistan within this parliamentary organization as well.
In general, Belarus and Tajikistan are bound by strong ties of friendship. Thanks to the wise leadership of the heads of state, Aleksandr Lukashenko and Emomali Rahmon, cooperation between Belarus and Tajikistan has reached the level of strategic partnership.
The level of bilateral contacts between the two states have gained momentum at various levels. Exchanges of official visits by heads of state, prime ministers, and ministers have taken place repeatedly, while regular working meetings are held within the framework of integration associations such as the CIS, SCO, and CSTO. The legal and contractual framework of relations includes more than 80 bilateral agreements of various levels.
The key document for the practical development of bilateral trade, economic, and humanitarian relations between Belarus and Tajikistan is the roadmap for bilateral cooperation of the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Tajikistan for 2022-2026. The Belarusian side is confident in the significant potential for trade, economic, and investment cooperation. Belarus has entered the top ten trading partners of Tajikistan, ranking eighth.
Belarus is commited to strengthening interregional cooperation with Tajikistan, as well as twinning ties between cities. This year, delegations from Vitebsk Oblast and Minsk Oblast visited Tajikistan, during which cooperation agreements were signed with Sughd Region. Reciprocal visits to Belarus are expected. There is already successful experience of long-term, mutually beneficial regional cooperation, as demonstrated by regional forums with Russia and Uzbekistan.
The two countries also cooperate in the cultural and humanitarian areas. For example, Tajikistan’s youth took part in cultural and educational events held in Belarus to mark the 80th anniversary of the Soviet people’s Victory in the Great Patriotic War, namely, the Train of Memory project and the Children of the Commonwealth forum.

A meeting with Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva noted that years of friendship have confirmed the good relations established between the two countries. This is due above all to the efforts of President Aleksandr Lukashenko of Belarus and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan. The heads of state set clear tasks to foster fruitful cooperation between the countries. Parliamentary interaction helps to implement these objectives.
