Belarus-NATO cooperation discussed in Brussels

MINSK, 24 August (BelTA) – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Belgium, Belarus’ Permanent Representative in NATO Alexander Mikhnevich met with NATO Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges Antonio Missiroli on 23 August, representatives of the Belarusian diplomatic mission in Brussels told BelTA.

Alexander Mikhnevich and Antonio Missiroli discussed topical items on the bilateral agenda and promising formats of Belarus-NATO interaction. Close attention was drawn to the potential of the NATO program Science for Peace and Security.

Belarus is in favor of maintaining and expanding constructive cooperation with NATO on the basis of mutual respect.

While pursuing a multiple-vector foreign policy and stepping up participation in international security institutions, Belarus is resolute to make its own contribution to preserving peace and hitting a strategic target – the creation of indivisible Euro-Atlantic security. The history of Belarus’ relations with NATO began in 1992 when the country joined the North Atlantic Cooperation Council, which became the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council (EAPC) in 1997.
