Belarus’ MPs to visit Thailand

MINSK, 21 October (BelTA) – The parliamentary delegation of Belarus plans to pay a visit to Thailand. The matter was discussed at a meeting of Vice Speaker of the House of Representatives Viktor Guminsky and First Vice Speaker of the Thai Senate Surachai Liangboonlertchai. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 133rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Geneva, Switzerland, BelTA learnt from the press service of the House of Representatives.

The parties also discussed bilateral inter-parliamentary cooperation. “Special attention was turned to the expansion of trade and economic cooperation, including the setting up of the Belarusian-Thai intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation. The sides agreed to continue work on simplifying visa requirements for citizens of the two countries,” the press service said.

While in Geneva, Viktor Guminsky and members of the Belarusian parliamentary delegation took part in plenary sessions of the Assembly, the IPU Governing Council, IPU Standing Committees on Peace and International Security, and on Democracy and Human Rights.

At the meeting of the IPU Standing Committee on Peace and International Security Viktor Guminsky spoke about terrorism and the need to expand international cooperation against threats to democracy and human rights. The head of the Belarusian delegation underlined the need to strengthen the role of traditional international organizations, and the UN system in particular, in prevention and regulation of conflicts, efficient counteraction to international terrorism.

At the plenary session of the 133rd IPU Assembly the Vice Speaker of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus participated in the general debate on moral and economic imperatives for fairer, smarter and more humane migration.
