Belarus’ MPs to attend CSTO PA, CIS IPA, IPU Assembly events

ST PETERSBURG, 13 October (BelTA) – Belarusian MPs are expected to take part in the events of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO PA), the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS IPA), and the 137th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) that will be running in St Petersburg through 18 October, BelTA has learned.

The first ones to start are the events of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO PA). Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Boleslav Pirshtuk, Chairman of the Standing Committee for International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic of the National Assmebly of Belarus, Sergei Rakhmanov and Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee on National Security of the House of Representatives Vladimir Bazanov will take part in the meeting of the CSTO PA Council and the tenth plenary session of the CSTO PA on 13 October. Participants of the plenary session will consider the CSTO draft model laws and recommendations. These are the model laws on the state secret, energy security, humanitarian assistance and the recommendations related to the harmonization of the legislations of the CSTO member states in part of military personnel training.

A meeting of the CIS IPA Council is scheduled for the same day. Attending the meeting will be Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich. The speaker of the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament will also hold bilateral meetings with heads of the parliamentary delegations of a number of countries.

The opening ceremony of the 137th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union is scheduled for 14 October. This year taking part in the assembly will be representatives of more than 150 countries, including Belarus, and also six inter-parliamentary associations. The assembly will focus on two main organizational issues: the expansion of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the election of a new chairman of the integration association for the next three years. The participants of the assembly are expected to adopt a resolution on the 20th anniversary of the Universal Declaration on Democracy.
