Belarus’ Mozyr, Zhlobin sign twinning agreements with Chinese cities

GOMEL, 31 March (BelTA) – The heads of the Mozyr District Executive Committee and the Zhlobin District Executive Committee have signed twinning agreements with the cities of Xuzhou and Lianyungang of China’s Jiangsu Province respectively, BelTA learned from the press service of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee.

The documents were inked during the visit of a delegation from Belarus’ Gomel Oblast to the People’s Republic of China. The visit will last till the end of the week.

A part of the delegation led by Chairman of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee Vladimir Dvornik paid a visit to Xuzhou on 30 March. During the visit, the Belarusian city of Mozyr and Xuzhou, which is a major industrial center of Jiangsu Province, signed agreements aimed at strengthening their social, economic, and cultural cooperation.

A protocol of intent was signed in Lianyungang on 31 March with a view to bolstering the ties between Gomel Oblast and Jiangsu Province and establishing friendship relations between the People’s Government of Lianyungang and the Zhlobin District Executive Committee. The two districts agreed to step up cooperation in equipment manufacturing, production of food, international trade, logistics, metallurgy, timber processing, agriculture, and tourism.

Besides, Francysk Skaryna Gomel State University concluded cooperation agreements with Jiangsu Normal University and Xuzhou Institute of Technology. The documents will step up cooperation in scientific research and boost the export of education services, the press service noted.

A protocol of strategic cooperation was signed between Belneftekhim Shanghai Trading and the Lianyungang-based company Kangda Illumination Material Factory. The document is aimed at promoting the products of the Belarusian company SvetlogorskKhimvolokno on the Chinese market. Plans have been made to deliver the first batch of Belarus-made hydrocarbon fiber to China by year-end 2016.

On 30 March, Vladimir Dvornik met with Xuzhou Municipal Party Committee Secretary Zhang Guohua. The Chairman of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee noted that interregional partnership ties open up new opportunities for social and cultural cooperation and contribute to sustainable development of territories. “Such meetings create opportunities for further mutually beneficial cooperation between Gomel Oblast and the People’s Republic of China. The development of contacts within the framework of the Silk Road Economic Belt project should be one of the main areas of our cooperation,” Vladimir Dvornik emphasized.

The parties agreed that a Xuzhou delegation will pay a return visit to Gomel Oblast in H2 2016.
