Belarus’ MFA submits note of protest to Ukraine’s Charge d’Affaires

MINSK, 18 June (BelTA) – Ukraine’s Charge d’Affaires in Belarus, Ivan Novitsky, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 18 June, Foreign Ministry Press Secretary Ruslan Varankov told journalists, BelTA reports.

The Ukrainian diplomat was handed a note of protest over the attack carried out by a Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle on 17 June in Russia’s Bryansk Oblast against a civilian bus transporting Belarusian citizens, most of them children.

The Ukrainian side was informed that as a result of this heinous crime, a Belarusian citizen was killed, and six other citizens, including five children, were wounded, some of them seriously.

“The Republic of Belarus strongly condemns this inhuman terrorist act, for which there is and can be no justification,” the official representative of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.

The Belarusian side demanded from Ukraine a full explanation of the incident, an immediate and objective investigation, and information on the prosecution of all those responsible to the fullest extent of the law.

Belarus will continue to take all necessary measures to protect the lives and safety of its citizens and reserves the right to take appropriate action against the Ukrainian side.
