Belarus, Laos meet for political consultations in Minsk

MINSK, 11 May (BelTA) - Belarus and Laos held a round of political consultations in Minsk on 11 May, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Belarusian delegation was headed by First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lukashevich, while the Lao delegation was led by Laos’ Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Maithong Thammavongsa.

“The parties discussed the current state and prospects for developing bilateral cooperation, including the organization of joint events. They also considered cooperation in the political, trade, economic and humanitarian areas, improvement of the legal framework, and interaction within international organizations,” the press service said.

The diplomats also exchanged views on certain regional and global issues.

Belarus’ Foreign Affairs Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov met with the head of the Lao delegation. The sides noted their mutual interest in further developing multifaceted cooperation between Minsk and Vientiane, paying special attention to the interaction between the two sides in the near future and joint steps to implement agreements in trade and economic.

Maxim Ryzhenkov confirmed Belarus’ readiness to welcome Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith at the invitation of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko.

He also renewed his invitation to Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic Thongsavanh Phomvihane, to pay a return visit to Belarus.
