Belarus’ KGB cooperates with Western European, CIS colleagues in terrorism fight

MINSK, 18 July (BelTA) - Belarus’ State Security Committee (KGB) cooperates with security services of Western Europe and the CIS in the war on terrorism, KGB Chairman Valery Vakulchik told reporters after his report to Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, BelTA has learned.

“The head of state was informed about the cooperation of the KGB with the security services of France and other countries of Western Europe, first of all, in the war on terrorism. We also maintain vigorous cooperation with the security services of the CIS,” Valery Vakulchik said.

In his words, the President was also briefed on the efficiency of terrorism prevention efforts of Belarusian security services. “Some people involved in terrorist activities moved through Belarus. Some of them stayed in Belarus for a while. Therefore, as far as these people are concerned, we have been working with our partners from other countries,” the KGB chairman said.

“The situation is rather calm in our country. We do not see any problems as far as terrorist activities of certain elements or any organizations are concerned,” Valery Vakulchik added.
