MINSK, 17 May (BelTA) – The Justice Ministry of Belarus and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) have signed a cooperation plan for 2019, BelTA has learned.
UNICEF representative to Belarus Rashed Mustafa Sarwar noted that the plan provides for promotion of mediation as an efficient instrument of conflict resolution and its introduction in the education system.
In line with the plan, juvenile delinquents will not be isolated from the society, whenever it is possible. Mediation can be of great help here.
The cooperation plan was signed in the run-up to the conference to discuss implementation of the Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction that is taking place in Minsk on 17 May. The conference has been organized by the Justice Ministry in collaboration with the UNICEF Office in Belarus. The participants of the conference are discussing best practices in protecting children’s rights and interests in the situation when children are relocated by one of their parents in another country (held in a foreign state) without consent of the other parent. There are plans to improve the national legislation in order to ensure more efficient implementation of the convention.
