MINSK, 30 December (BelTA) - Belarus suggests holding the 7th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia in Minsk and Minsk Oblast in 2020, Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova said in an in interview with the ONT Kontury program on 29 December, BelTA has learned.

The speaker informed that Belarus sent its proposals to the Russian side regarding the topics of the forum, the time and place. “Most likely, it will be autumn, the city of Minsk and Minsk Oblast,” Natalya Kochanova said.

She expressed confidence that the upper houses of the parliaments of Belarus and Russia will continue fruitful cooperation. Natalya Kochanova noted that she has known Valentina Matviyenko, the chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federal Assembly, for several years. She was the first to congratulate the speaker of the upper house of the Belarusian parliament on her election to the post. “We will maintain good relations aimed at promoting cooperation between our MPs,” Natalya Kochanova believes.

The speaker touched on the challenges facing the National Assembly of the seventh convocation. She recalled that they were clearly defined by the president during his meeting with MPs on 5 December. “The most important thing is people, fair treatment. All decisions taken should benefit the state,” Natalya Kochanova stressed.

She said that the following year will be special. It completes the current five-year period. Next year the country will draw up a plan of economic development for 2021-2025, hold the presidential elections and celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. “The year will not be easy, but it will be very interesting,” Natalya Kochanova said.
