Belarus’ Investigative Committee, FBI to expand exchange of information

MINSK, 15 June (BelTA) – The Investigative Committee of the Republic of Belarus and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the United States have agreed to expand the exchange of information and advanced experience in countering international crime, BelTA learned from the website of Belarus’ Investigative Committee following the first visit of FBI Special Agent, FBI Representative at the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine Laura Kriegbaum to Belarus.

Laura Kriegbaum and her assistant Daniel Stoddard have recently assumed their new posts in Kiev, where they will also be in change of FBI cooperation with Belarus.

The parties shared opinions on the legal systems of the two countries, discussed the specifics of criminal procedures in Belarus and the United States, touched upon some aspects of international legal assistance in criminal matters. The sides agreed that successful counteraction to organized and transnational crime is impossible without effective joint actions by Belarusian and U.S. law enforcement agencies.

The parties agreed to continue the exchange of information of mutual interest as well as best investigative practices, and also provide assistance in the training of investigators.

According to the Investigative Committee, the visit of FBI representatives to Belarus helped strengthen the constructive interaction between the law enforcement agencies of the two countries in crime prevention.
