Belarus intensifies cooperation with World Intellectual Property Organization

MINSK, 4 November (BelTA) – On 3 November Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva Yuri Ambrazevich met with Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Daren Tang, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting took place at the WIPO headquarters. Yuri Ambrazevich congratulated Daren Tang on his appointment as the head of WIPO and emphasized practical importance of cooperation on issues related to the intellectual property protection. The parties welcomed progress in cooperation between Belarus and WIPO in recent years and reaffirmed their readiness to expand cooperation with a focus on supporting innovation, commercialization of intellectual property, and promotion of an intellectual property arbitration system in Belarus.

Belarus joined the Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired, or Otherwise Print Disabled on 22 October 2020. It was another effort of our country to protect the rights of visually impaired persons. The State Committee on Science and Technology of Belarus and the National Center of Intellectual Property are working on Belarus’ accession to the WIPO Hague Agreement Concerning the International Deposit of Industrial Designs. WIPO provides practical assistance to Belarus in developing the national intellectual property system.
