Belarus intends to share innovative potential with Southeast Asia countries

MINSK, 4 September (BelTA) - Belarus intends to share innovative potential with the countries of Southeast Asia, Dmitry Shevtsov, Deputy Chairman of the Standing Commission for International Affairs of the House of Representatives, deputy head of the National Assembly’s delegation for interparliamentary contacts with the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), said at the 39th ASEAN IPA General Assembly in Singapore, BelTA learned from the press service of the House of Representatives.

Dmitry Shevtsov made a report on the AIPA’s main theme “Towards a Resilient and Innovative Community”. He noted that the Belarusian Parliament welcomes the growing interaction with the parliaments of Southeast Asia and views the strengthening of the partnership with the AIPA as one of the priority areas of its foreign policy. Belarus views the countries of Southeast Asian as reliable partners in countering modern challenges and threats and is ready to share experience, exchange scientific and innovative potential in order to achieve sustainable development and stability.

Belarus has a reputation for being an independent and economically important partner in its region. According to Dmitry Shevtsov, all the strategies and programs adopted in Belarus at the state level, as well as international cooperation are aimed at supporting innovation, attracting foreign investors and improving the business environment in the country. The economic system is interested in the development of innovative and high-tech industries that will produce the goods on demand in foreign markets.

Dmitry Shevtsov also met with Speaker of Singapore’s Parliament, ASEAN IPA Chairman Tan Chuan-Jin. The speaker thanked the Belarusian side for the participation in the event and spoke in favor of strengthening bilateral cooperation and interaction in the ASEAN. The Belarusian MP held several brief meetings, including with President of the National Assembly of Laos Pany Yathotou, Deputy Chairperson of the Parliament of the East Timor Maria Angelina Lopes Sarmento.

The 39th ASEAN IPA General Assembly is underway in Singapore on 3-7 September.
