Belarus in favor of pragmatic approach to EaP initiatives

MINSK, 29 June (BelTA) – Belarus is in favor of the pragmatic approach to the implementation of various Eastern Partnership (EaP) initiatives, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said at the informal ministerial meeting of the Eastern Partnership member states on 29 June, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Makei emphasized that Belarus has always been in favor of the pragmatic approach to the implementation of various initiatives, in favor of taking mutual interests in the Eastern Partnership initiative into account.

“European states and our countries should maintain good relations in the Eastern Partnership and promote these relations,” the minister said. He noted that the sides have to deal with risks and threats which emerge in the region. However, there is no unified solution of this problem because every state has its priorities and opinions regarding certain issues.

According to the minister, differentiation is one of the priorities in the Eastern Partnership initiative. “We must do our best to establish solid relations with Europe. However, it is necessary to remember that our states should remain strong and independent,” Vladimir Makei noted. He also added that the Eastern Partnership should take the opinions of all interested parties into consideration in order to avoid possible conflicts in the future.

Vladimir Makei expressed hope that crucial solutions, including on the Ukrainian conflict, will be made at the today’s meeting in Minsk.
