MINSK, 13 July (BelTA) - Belarus is in favor of the adequate assessment of the contribution of the country to the regional and international security and stability, Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said in an interview with the Belarus 1 TV channel.

"The cyclical nature of the relations with the EU is not our fault and not our initiative. We oppose that the development of relations, development cooperation should depend on any individual events. We need to proceed from the strategic evaluation and the strategic context of relations between countries or between an individual country and some regional organizations. We are categorically against that Belarus, unlike other countries, should be analyzed under a microscope, like a star in the Galaxy,” said Vladimir Makei. According to him, Belarus is in favor of the adequate assessment of the contribution of the country to the regional and international security and stability.

Vladimir Makei noted with regret that at a certain stage the partners moved away from such approaches and principles, hence the cyclical nature. "But today, it seems the situation is changing, and many countries, our European partners, our American partners have started to see Belarus differently," he said.

Regarding the upcoming elections of the President of Belarus Vladimir Makei said that he is convinced that they will be smooth, calm and maximally transparent. "We have already sent invitations to a number of international organizations, which traditionally monitor elections. I am convinced that international observers will come in due time and get actively engaged in the monitoring process,” he said. Vladimir Makei noted the readiness to ensure that the elections should be held without any problems, because it is "absolutely in the interests of the authorities."
