Belarus, Georgia discuss political, economic cooperation

MINSK, 1 June (BelTA) - Minsk and Tbilisi have reaffirmed their interest in intensifying contacts between the foreign ministries of the countries. The matter was discussed during a meeting between Belarusian Foreign Affairs Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov and Georgian Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Alexander Khvtisiashvili, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The sides gave a positive assessment of the development of bilateral relations and political dialogue, as well as the progress achieved in economic cooperation, noting significant untapped potential. They also confirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening contacts between the foreign ministries of Belarus and Georgia.

Bilateral relations were discussed in greater detail during talks between Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Pavel Utyupin and Alexander Khvtisiashvili. The diplomats reviewed a broad range of issues related to Belarusian-Georgian cooperation, including political dialogue, economic ties and the expansion of cultural and humanitarian exchanges.

Special attention was paid to implementing agreements reached during the meeting of the Belarusian-Georgian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation held in March 2026, as well as to intensifying diplomatic engagement between the two ministries. The sides reaffirmed their mutual interest in strengthening friendly ties and continuing constructive dialogue.

According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Alexander Khvtisiashvili is visiting Belarus as part of a Georgian delegation led by Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture David Songulashvili to participate in the international specialized exhibition Belagro 2026.
