Belarus, Georgia discuss interaction in UN, OSCE, Eastern Partnership

MINSK, 29 June (BelTA) - Belarus and Georgia have similar views regarding the promotion of their interests in the UN, the OSCE, and in the Eastern Partnership Initiative, Belarus Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said after the talks with head of the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tamar Beruchashvili, BelTA has learned.

During the negotiations, Vladimir Makei and Tamar Beruchashvili discussed the interaction in such organizations as the UN, the OSCE, and the Eastern Partnership Initiative. "We have a full understanding and similar views regarding the promotion of the interests of our countries in these organizations," said Vladimir Makei.

In addition to the cooperation in the regional and international organizations, the ministers discussed the prospects of trade and economic cooperation. According to Vladimir Makei, now the parties are preparing a number of proposals and events aimed at further deepening of bilateral trade and economic cooperation. He recalled that during a visit of President Alexander Lukashenko to Georgia in April this year the task was set to reach $200 million in bilateral trade. "We are working on the implementation of this task," the minister stressed. For example, the Belarusian part of the joint commission on trade and economic cooperation has been set up. The Georgian side will decide on the co-chairman of its part of the commission in the near future.

The ministers agreed that this year Belarus and Georgia have, in fact, rediscovered each other. This was facilitated by the agreements reached during the visit of the Belarusian leader. They gave a new impetus to the development of bilateral relations in all areas of interaction, Vladimir Makei noted.
