Belarus gearing up for Independence Day

MINSK, June 25 (BelTA) – Belarus is getting ready to celebrate the main state holiday.

Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus – the Day of the Republic - is celebrated on July 3 as decided by a nationwide referendum. This day marks the liberation of Minsk from the Nazi invaders. The celebration across the country is to pay homage to the fallen heroes, express appreciation to the veterans, inspire the present day homeland defenders and promote the idea of creating a strong, flourishing and independent Belarus.

On the eve of the holiday, state awards will be conferred on outstanding Belarusians. The Palace of the Republic in Minsk will host a solemn concert. On July 3 the celebrations – parades, processions, concerts, and fireworks - will be held throughout the country.

Minsk will become the centre of the celebrations. Flowers will be laid to the Victory Monument on behalf of the head of state, parliament, government, governmental and non-governmental organizations. A military parade and a solemn procession will be held at the Minsk Hero City Stele. The celebrations will continue all day long in the squares, parks and streets of the capital.

The celebrations will climax with colourful fireworks in the capital and oblast centres. The fiery flowers of the fireworks blossoming out in the sky symbolize inspiration and joy that Belarusians feel on the national holiday.
