Belarus’ FM arrives in Astana for SCO foreign ministers meeting

MINSK, 20 May (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik has arrived in Kazakhstan’s Astana to take part in a meeting of the Foreign Ministers Council of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Belarus plans to become a full-fledged member of the organization in July 2024. Given the packed international agenda, the foreign ministers of the member countries have already considered it possible for the Belarusian counterpart to attend the event on a preliminary basis,” the ministry said.

The meeting program envisages participation and speech of the Belarusian delegation at the SCO Foreign Ministers Council, a collective meeting with Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and a number of bilateral negotiations and events within the framework of the Foreign Ministers Council.
