Belarus, Finland mull over projects to expand into EAEU market

MINSK, 16 May (BelTA) – Belarus and Finland are considering investment projects with the prospect of expanding into the market of the Eurasian Economic Union. The mutual interest in the matter was emphasized during the working visit of Belarus’ Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Kravchenko to Helsinki, BelTA learned from the ministry.

Oleg Kravchenko held talks with Anne Sipilainen, the Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland. The parties discussed the state and prospects for the Belarusian-Finnish relations, Belarus-EU cooperation, including within the Eastern Partnership, and also interaction in international organizations.

While on a visit, the Belarusian deputy minister of foreign affairs attended the Belarusian-Finnish ministerial consultations. The Finnish delegation at the talks was led by Director General of the Department for Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia Maimo Henriksson.

The diplomats considered the bilateral political, trade, economic, environmental, humanitarian agenda. The parties emphasized mutual interest in expanding trade contacts, implementation of joint economic and investment projects, including those envisaging access to the market of the Eurasian Economic Union.

Oleg Kravchenko met with Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee at the Parliament of Finland Matti Vanhanen and Chairman of the Friendship Group with Belarus in the Parliament of Finland Wille Rydman to discuss a wide range of issues related to bilateral relations with a focus on the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation.

The Belarusian diplomat also gave a speech at Aleksanteri Institute of the University of Helsinki on Belarus’ foreign policy and the role of the country in the region. He also answered numerous questions of MPs, workers of the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, academic staff and students, representatives of the expert community and mass media.
