Belarus, EU discuss cooperation prospects

MINSK, 4 April (BelTA) – On 3 and 4 April, Minsk hosted the third meeting of the Belarus-EU Coordination Group that discussed the development prospects of the relations between Belarus and the European Union, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Belarusian delegation was led by Oleg Kravchenko, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. The EU delegation was headed by Thomas Mayr-Harting, Managing Director for Europe and Central Asia in the European External Action Service. The meeting gathered representatives of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, other government agencies and organizations, the European External Action Service, and the European Commission.

The parties talked about the development prospects of the relations between Belarus and the European Union, including the country’s participation in the Eastern Partnership initiative, cooperation in the field of mobility, the current status of the dialogue in different sectors, collaboration within the framework of the EU technical assistance projects, and cooperation in matters related to human rights.

The head of the EU delegation Thomas Mayr-Harting also met with representatives of the Belarus President Administration and with Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei. “The parties discussed current issues of the cooperation between Belarus and the European Union,” the press service said.

The Belarus-EU Coordination Group was set up in 2016 as a new format of a structural and comprehensive dialogue between Belarus and the European Union in all areas of bilateral relations. The first meeting of the group was held in Brussels in April 2016, with the second in Minsk in November.
