Belarus, EU discuss advancement of political dialogue in Minsk

MINSK, 24 April (BelTA) – The seventh session of the Belarus-EU coordinating group is taking place in Minsk on 24-25 April, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.

The Belarusian delegation at today’s meeting was led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Kravchenko, the European one – Managing Director for Europe and Central Asia in the European External Action Service Thomas Mayr-Harting. Representatives of Belarusian government agencies, relevant branches of the European Commission and the European External Action Service took part in the meeting. Representatives of Belarusian non-governmental organizations took part in a number of segments of the session.

The sides discussed the state and prospects of Belarus’ relations with the European Union, the country’s participation in the European Union’s Eastern Partnership Initiative, cooperation in economy and finance, trade, agriculture, education, science, ecology, transport, digital technology, international technical aid, and human rights.

On the sidelines of the session Oleg Kravchenko met with Thomas Mayr-Harting. The two diplomats discussed the state of the political dialogue and industry-wise cooperation between Belarus and the European Union, participation in the European Union’s Eastern Partnership Initiative, the implementation of the European Union’s international technical aid projects in Belarus, and the situation in Eastern Europe.

The first session of the Belarus-EU coordinating group took place in April 2016. The format is designed to enable a structured dialogue about the entire spectrum of Belarus’ relations with the European Union.

The sessions are held every half a year. Representatives of the European Commission, the European External Action Service, and relevant government agencies take part in them. The previous negotiations took place in Brussels, Belgium on 12-13 December 2018.
