Belarus, EU committed to action plan on Iranian nuclear program

MINSK, 16 July (BelTA) – Belarus and the European Union confirm their commitment to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran’s nuclear program. The matter was discussed as Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Dapkiunas met with the head of the EU Delegation to Belarus Andrea Wiktorin, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.

The Belarusian side was informed about results of the latest session of the JCPOA commission. The ministers of foreign affairs of Germany, Iran, China, Russia, France, the EU high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, and the minister of state for the Middle East at the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office took part in the meeting.

Once again Andrei Dapkiunas and Andrea Wiktorin underlined the adherence of Belarus and the European Union to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on Iran’s nuclear program. The importance of the document for preserving regional peace and security was emphasized.

Andrei Dapkiunas noted it is necessary to look for practical ways to preserve the JCPOA. He also noted it is important to work out and agree collective mechanisms of cooperation, which could neutralize consequences of unilateral extraterritorial sanctions.

During the conversation the sides discussed the advancement of Belarus’ cooperation with the European Union in the protection of human rights, including in the context of participation of Belarusian representatives in the Open Government Partnership summit in Tbilisi and the fifth round of the bilateral dialogue on human rights, which is scheduled to take place in Minsk on 17 July.
