Belarus' delegation to attend NAM ministerial meeting in Uganda

MINSK, 14 October (BelTA) – A delegation from Belarus will attend the 19th Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Kampala, Uganda, on 15-16 October, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.

Belarus will serve as the NAM Deputy President from the European Regional Group.

Representatives of Belarus will take part in the plenary discussion “Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence”. During his address, the foreign minister will outline Belarus’ approaches to strengthening the NAM’s role in building a just and sustainable world order, consolidating the positions of member countries on key international issues, building the economic potential of NAM states, and developing long-term, mutually beneficial cooperation. Particular attention will be paid to issues of sustainable development, innovative economic interaction, and humanitarian cooperation.

Bilateral meetings with foreign ministers of NAM member states are also planned.

The Non-Aligned Movement was founded in 1961 to protect the interests of developing countries. The Republic of Belarus has been its member since 1998. Currently, the movement has 121 members, 18 of which have observer status, along with 10 international organizations, including the UN. The organization is guided by the principles of sovereignty, non-interference, and the non-use of force, and it affirms the right of all countries to independently shape their own political, economic, social, and cultural futures.
