Belarus’ Customs to sign cooperation agreements with ten more countries

MINSK, 13 August (BelTA) – The Belarusian customs service works to establish vigorous international interaction in customs affairs. Cooperation agreements may be signed with a number of countries soon, representatives of the State Customs Committee told BelTA.

Work will continue to sign agreements with India, Egypt, Pakistan, Iran, Jordan, Japan, Israel, South Korea, Cambodia, and Myanmar.

Negotiations have been initiated on the draft agreement on cooperation and mutual assistance in customs affairs between Belarus and the European Union.

So far Belarus’ Customs has signed about 90 international agreements. As many as 13 international documents regulating a broad range of relations in the sphere of customs administration were added to the total in H1 2019. This year bilateral agreements have been signed with Azerbaijan, China, the USA, Ukraine, Uruguay, Uzbekistan while multilateral agreements have been signed within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union and the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Apart from that, in 2019 Belarus was elected for the first time to the Policy Commission of the World Customs Organization. It is one of the WCO’s key bodies. The commission is in charge of working out the strategy to guide the WCO’s work and prepares recommendations for the Council of the World Customs Organization on the most important matters in the sphere of customs administration.
