Belarus’ court computerization practices showcased in Beijing

MINSK, 1 June (BelTA) – Belarus’ court computerization practices were displayed at the 13th conference of presidents of supreme courts of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member countries in Beijing, BelTA learned from the website of the Supreme Court of Belarus.

The Belarusian delegation was invited by the Supreme People's Court of China and took part in the event as an observer state in the SCO.

First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court of Belarus Valery Kalinkovich made a speech during a thematic section on computerization of courts and the development of an intellectual court. He spoke about the structure and operation principles of the general court system in Belarus, and also about the status and prospects of computerizing judicial activities.

Valery Kalinkovich focused on the introduction of online technologies in the legal proceedings, audiovisual recording of court sessions, remote court appealing systems and the reduction of paperwork. He spoke about the prospects of developing interactive databases of judicial practice and intrasystem information resources with their subsequent alignment with unified national databases.

The meeting was chaired by the Supreme People's Court of China. Today China is one of the leaders in court computerization. The Supreme People's Court has a information management center, which accumulates online information on the activities of all the country’s courts and the decisions they make. Up to 850,000 court hearings are aired online a year, with up to 6 billion people visiting the relevant resources. The system forms judicial statistics on given parameters and areas and also select judicial practice and judicial precedents on the topic of interest. The system is synchronized with national analytical and information resources and its data are used in conducting social studies and forecasts.

While in Beijing, the Belarusian delegation met with Deputy Chairman of the Supreme People's Court of China Shen Deyong. The parties exchanged views on the prospects for Belarus-China relations in the justice sector. They expressed readiness for further expansion of constructive legal cooperation and strengthening of mutual understanding between representatives of the legal systems of the two countries.

An invitation from the chairman of the Supreme Council of Belarus to visit Belarus in 2019 was handed to the chairman of the Supreme People's Court of China.

Following the meeting of chairmen of the Supreme Courts of the SCO member states, a joint statement was adopted, which outlined the key approaches to further development of cooperation in the field of justice.
