MINSK, 7 December (BelTA) – A delegation of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry is taking part in the eleventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the Transboundary Effects of Industrial Accidents of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). The online event will be running through 9 December, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry.

In line with the Council of Ministers’ Resolution No.1005 of 29 July 2003, the Emergencies Ministry is responsible for the implementation of the convention. “On the first day of the event, the participants discussed the joint action plan for 2021-2022. They also elected members of the Presidium of the Conference of the Parties. Representatives of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry joined both working bodies of the convention: the Bureau and the Working Group on Implementation,” the press service noted.

Belarus attaches great importance to fulfilling international obligations to implement the convention, the Emergencies Ministry said. “The Safe Industrial Practices Department of the ministry acts as the national coordinator for the implementation of the convention. To ensure prompt notification about transboundary industrial accidents, Belarus set up a national communications station of the system of industrial accidents notification at the National Center for Emergency Management and Response of the Emergencies Ministry,” the ministry added.
