Belarus, China might abolish visas for tourist groups

MINSK, 23 February (BelTA) – Belarus has suggested considering visa-free travels for tourist groups from Belarus travelling to China and Chinese tourist groups visiting Belarus. The suggestion was put forward by the Belarusian government during the meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Belarus Cui Qiming on 23 February, BelTA has learned.

The Chinese diplomat met with Belarusian Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov and First Vice Premier Vasily Matyushevsky in Minsk. The parties discussed ways to boost and expand the bilateral cooperation.

Belarus believes that the two countries should work harder to increase the tourist flow between the two states. Belarus suggested considering visa-free travels for tourist groups from Belarus and China. The Belarusian government believes that this will help ramp up bilateral contacts. A direct flight between Minsk and Beijing is also on the agenda.

Belarus is ready to deepen cooperation in science and technologies and implement joint projects in biotechnologies, power engineering, engine making, fundamental research and other fields.

Belarus is a reliable partner of China. The country appreciates cooperation with China and views it as a strategic partner that plays an important role in maintaining stability and security in the world.

The bilateral cooperation has been particularly vibrant in recent years. The past period marked a real breakthrough in the bilateral relations. The partners expressed confidence that the bilateral cooperation will maintain momentum.

Belarus is now actively preparing for the visit of President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping that is due to take place in May 2015. This will be a very important event for Belarus.
