BREST, 28 July (BelTA) – Polesie State University is set to open the Belarus-China Intercultural Communication Center in the 2020-2021 academic year, BelTA learned from Head of the Intercultural Communication Department at the Economics and Finance Faculty of the university Olga Zhilevich.

The Belarus-China Intercultural Communication Center is set to open on 1 October. The establishment of the center is supported by Qufu Normal University and Fujian Normal University that signed academic cooperation agreements with Polesie State University. The ultimate goal of the project is to streamline the educational process and improve the quality of training based on best international practices.

“Two teachers from China were supposed to come here in February, but the pandemic ruined the plans. Therefore, classes with our students were held online. In September the classes will resume. We also count on support of the Confucius Institute run by Belarusian State University. The cooperation agreement with it is in the works now,” Olga Zhilevich said.

According to her, the interest in the Chinese language among students of Polesie State University is pretty high. Thirty students of the Intercultural Communication Department will continue studying it in the new academic year. Another 30 first-grade students will start learning it from scratch. The interest in the Chinese language and culture among local students is also due to the summer school for Chinese students that has been run by the university for two years already.

The Belarus-China Intercultural Communication Center will have a calligraphy class, a movie club, a sinology class. There are plans to launch the Chinese language classes for school students and adults.
