Belarus’ central bank to launch cyber security unit in 2018

MINSK, 26 October (BelTA) - The center for monitoring and combating computer attacks in the financial sphere will start operating in 2018, First Deputy Chairman of the Board of Belarus’ National Bank Taras Nadolny told the media ahead of the third CIS international banking and finance forum Minsk Business Meetings, BelTA has learned.

“We are now working to set up the unit which will deal with cyber security. The project is at the first stage: we defined the areas of activity and set up a commission with the participation of the banks, which are the most advanced on this front, and units of the National Bank. The center for monitoring and combating computer attacks in the financial sphere is expected to be up and running in 2018,” Taras Nadolny said.

He noted that the establishment of such unit has just begun. “Therefore I would not want to speak about the exact launch date,” he added.

The third CIS international banking and finance forum Minsk Business Meetings is running in the Belarusian capital on 26-27 October. The forum has been organized by the CIS Financial and Banking Council in cooperation with Belarusbank with support of the Belarusian government and the CIS Executive Committee. The event has brought together representatives of national (central) banks and exchanges, financial institutions, banking unions and associations, and also top managers of the CIS innovative and investment companies.

The forum participants are set to discuss financial and economic cooperation in the CIS, innovative financial and insurance products, digital technologies, and attraction of investment in the CIS economies. The forum participants will learn more about the experience in addressing similar tasks accumulated by the CIS member states and other international financial centers.
