Belarus’ CEC to monitor parliamentary elections in Tajikistan

MINSK, 24 February (BelTA) – Representatives of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of the Republic of Belarus will monitor the parliamentary elections in Tajikistan as part of the CIS mission, BelTA has learned from the CEC.

The Belarusian delegation will include Sergei Kalinovsky and Ivan Shchurok. The elections to the lower house of the Tajikistani parliament are scheduled for 1 March 2015.

A mission of long-term observers of the Commonwealth of Independent States is already working in Tajikistan. The CIS mission has already met with representatives of the Agrarian Party, the Socialist Party, and the Social Democratic Party to discuss the course of the election campaign.

The CIS observation mission informed that more observers are going to join the mission. As of 23 February, accreditation has been granted to 153 observers from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, the CS Interparliamentary Assembly, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Belarus-Russia Union State and the CIS Executive Committee.
